Farnese,
Comune of Lazio in Province of Viterbo is a typically medieval town rising
on a tufa cliff near the Lake of Bolsena at the border with Tuscany and not
far from the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea, at 343 meters above the sea level.
It covers an area of 52.92 km ² and has a population of 1684 inhabitants
(including 81 foreigners) to 31.12.2008, called "Farnesani".
An integral part of the territory is the Nature Reserve "Selva del Lamone",
part of the system of protected areas of Lazio, that spreads out along 1800
ha entirely included in the municipal territory of Farnese.
Production of cereals, excellent extra
virgin olive oil and livestock (cheese and wool).
Is the ancient Castrum Farneti, probably called this way because of the woods
rich of English oaks (a phylum of oak named in italian "Farnia")
sourrounding it, it would have given its name to the Farnese Family of which
it has been a long time feudal possession.
